Deanne Achong presented a work in progress, Bird, that is
part of a larger piece focussed around the concept of archival material
relating to jazz music from the 1930s-1950s. Bird is created in Flash,
a recombined and altered version of a quicktime video found on the web.
Deanne is an artist working in Vancouver, Canada. Her practice
explores photographic and digital media in installations and net art.
She has exhibited her work in Canada, the US and Europe. She was an
artist-in-residence at the Caribbean Contemporary Arts in Trinidad in
2003, and will be pursuing a web residency at La Chambre Blanche in
Quebec in the spring of 2005. She is originally from Montreal and holds
a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MFA from
the University of British Columbia. She teaches part-time at the Emily
