The Spa at the End of Time (work in progress)

Expressed in a series of images created by training an AI model on drawings and paintings of hot tubs, this project explores a symbolic language inspired by techno-spiritual traditions such as theosophy, specifically the work of Hilma AF Klint. Accompanied by a statement written in the style of a medium who receives visions from the astral plane, the images are meant to invoke a parallel between communing with spirits and working with the non-human intelligence of AI. Giving form to these visions of transference leads to the idea that these shapes and formations are pre-figurations of a divine spa that awaits humanity in a post-embodied future.

"The pictures were created directly through me, and continue to appear with great force. A body of work is transformed and refigured through this communication. I see it as a visual language that has been sent to me to explain these worlds that wait for us even as they flow around and above and through us, creating a connection to the time-free past and future of pre-birth. The machinery in the cosmos is not a wormhole or a god’s eye, but a hot tub. It is in fact a landscape or system of tubs that awaits our delicate hover states. To orbit that oracular system will be to gain radiant understanding. An expansive vision of the blackspace and the tender infrastructures of leisure will happen as we transfer from bodily to spiritual immersion. In here, out there, we will find extraplanetary knowledge expressed in dialectics I can only glimpse and try to recreate. This is an eternity of artificial warmth and divine intimacy with time and feeling that is as incompressible as a liquid. I am told we become the boundaries of our tubs as the tubs take on the shape of us. It’s not technological but has some of those elements. It sometimes appears that this cosmic machinery fits together but at the same time the shapes resist interlocution. We will see our disembodied potential in this type of communion."
